The Tigers were physically and mentally prepared for this game. We worked harder in practice to master the players and skills for we didn’t want to fail this time. Having players who had the experience of playing a district final last year helped tremendously because we were able to talk about things we didn’t excel at last year and fix them. All of them were excited about making history in our soccer program by winning a District title again after 15 years. Most of the players were babies at that time and Mauricio Castillo wasn’t even born yet, so we were all ready to make history.

We started playing our passing game from the first second, regardless of the condition of the field (it was raining so the field was very wet). Our defense played a great role since they were able to stop all of the long balls and dangerous plays. Our midfielders kept the “pass-run, pass-run” pace going which helped tremendously in offense for we were able to create opportunities right away and capitalized one when we pressured a ball that was sent to the Big Rapids’ goalie. By second half, we were up by 1, so I talked to the players how we had to win second half and that we had 40 more minutes to make the history we had been talking about, I asked him for their best 40 minutes of the season I talked to the players about giving me their best +1, I told them “give me your best +1, whenever you feel like you are at your best, give me that extra push, that extra hustle, win that extra 50-50 ball for the team. If each and every one of you does that, we’ll be up to great things”. We maintained possession of the ball for most of the second half, our defense stayed strong, our middle was distributing the ball very well, and our offense was creating opportunities on top, which led us to our second goal scored by Riley Garcia from a corner kick.

Just like during the regular season, our defenders Brian Garcia, Logan Claeys, Riley Garcia, Carson Claeys, and Mauricio Castillo played a great game in defense. Ryan Jenkins, Joseph Hayes, and Henry Kidder played a phenomenal game in the middle and Ricardo Bahena and Harry Jenkins did a good job on top. My subs Brandon Rabe, Matthew Oberlin, Anthony Gilchrist, and Miguel Guerra also played when they were on the field.

Goals: Riley Garcia and own goal by BR goalie
