Meet Recap

Terminal Velocity is the term used to describe the maximum speed a free-falling body can reach before the pulling force of gravity is balanced by the resistance of air and friction. It’s where the body can go no faster. At Terminal Velocity it would take approximately 93 seconds to complete a 5k race. Now, that’s with a falling body, say out of a plane. In running terms, I think terminal velocity could be described as that speed at which there is no more left to give – legs, lungs, arms, heart and mind are pushing against the impossible need for rest. It’s running till you think you will collapse and then keep pushing. It’s a hard, “never thought I could do that”, death-defying pace.

It’s PR pace.

9 of our runners reached a new terminal velocity during their meet at the Oceana Golf Course. 5 of those runners beat their previous best time by more than 1 minute:
Ethan Sill and Slader Beyer both by 1:22.10 (what are the odds of that?), Gillian Parzych by 1:14 (wow!), Kaden Olmstead by 1:12, and Mathis Mueller by 1:06. These are fantastic improvements.
Jill Mitteer increased her speed by 32 seconds, Claire Peterson by 26, Lindsey Harvell by 25, and Devan Yeager by 15. Will Kidder was just shy of breaking his PR set 2 weeks ago – hopefully he will dip below 19 minutes in this next race… which would be a speed of 9.8 mph.
